Frolov Out; Ponikarovsky In

by Dan on July 28, 2010

The signing of Alexei Ponikarovsky is just further proof that the Los Angeles Kings are more pretenders then they are contenders...

Out is Alexander Frolov who signed with the New York Rangers and in is Alexei Ponikarovsky who scored 21 goals for Pittsburg and Toronto last season. Alexei Ponikarovsky has scored more then 2 goals in four of the last five seasons. Ponikarovsky is known as a pretty good even-strength goal scorer and that figures to help the Kings because they were abysmal at scoring goals at even strength last season.

I think this is a nice signing but I think if you're a Los Angeles Kings fan then you're were probably hoping for na bigger splash in the free agent market but what can I say this is typical of the Los Angeles Kings... See my post here: Kings Are Pretenders Until They Prove Otherwise.

Alexei Ponikarovsky is a big guy at 6'4", 230 lbs. and he's a fine skater but he's never put his size to good use. If he can make better use of his size then the Kings may have something here but I'm thinking this is just another under-achieving winger...
